Biniam, I share your feeling.
What surprised me the most is our immigration office policy (or the
government for that matter). It is much easier for these beauty pageants
get the permit to leave the country (Exit Visa) for the same purpose
that you and I deem is contrary to the value of our women, while it is
almost impossible to get one for those who intend to pursue their higher
education abroad.
I wish to hear your point of view on this.
You have my permit to post it on Dehai.
Thanks
Aman

Dear all!
Maybe it's just me, but I think beauty pageants are a totally useless
venture. What is so useful about women so ignorantly contributing to
condescending stereotypes about them? Is anyone sure that pageants serve
any real purpose other than bringing to the fore the fact that women
will always be used and viewed as an ornament to be dressed up and
showed off? It's just repugnant. Besides, it doesn't really take a
rocket scientist to understand that the beauty pageants will create a
generation of young Eritrean girls who will look to become beauty queens
instead of studying to become doctors, engineers, economists or
scientists. Tragically, this may very well be the direction we are
heading. Let's face it, no one is perfect but some misguided individuals
in our country are in desperate need of soul-searching therapy.
