Press Statement for Immediate Release:

Deplorable act of Intimidating a New Nation for taking an Independent
Stance

December 27, 2009
YPFDJ

On the 23 rd December 2009, the UN Security Council have passed yet
another scandalous decision that is clearly against the interest of Eritrean
people which will live in infamy on the historical calendar of Eritrea. The
sanction was sneaked by the actors of the draft into the UNSC resolution on
their 6254th meeting under the guise of the festive season while the majority
of the organization was in the grip of festive celebration. This shameful
act of betrayal of the Eritrean people by the UNSC is repeating itself on
the 21st Century after the UN committed similar betrayal during the mid of
last century.
The Security Council have been hoodwinked to reach this decision by narrow
faction members lead by the weighty US diplomatic muscle for the sole
objective of weakening the state of Eritrea to render it as another satellite
state in the Horn of Africa.
The entire process of demonizing Eritrea that culminated on the sanction
has been handled with such deliberate exploitation of regional and
international forums by running roughshod over the original objectives of these
organizations. It is highly lamentable to observe the AU and UN can be treated
with such contempt and derision by a single country in the 21st Century and
as a result millions of people in the region suffer.
This sanction is based on pure fabrication of events that was designed to
deceive and manipulate the international community to persuade Eritrea as
the spoiler of peace in the region, while the contrary is the truth. However
the US, UK and others who saw Eritrea’s independent stance as intolerable
had found Eritrea guilty first and subsequently went to find the evidence
and could not provide a single shred of evidence that can justify taking
punitive measures against Eritrea.
The injustice and unfairness we are witnessing in passing this sanction is
of colossal proportion. The UNSC could not lift a finger with respect to
the huge border dispute between Ethiopia and Eritrea which killed
conservatively more that 100,000 lives and still draining the resources of both
nations to date and found it fit to come down like ton of bricks on Eritrea for
concocted and inconsequential accusations about Djibouti’s claims with
regards to its border with Eritrea.
It is disheartening to observe the international media characteristically
could not pause for a moment and ask few searching questions to find out
the truth instead of clamoring to repeat what was being said by the powerful
and their agents when the sanction was passed.
The punishment chosen to sanction Eritrea is purely designed to weaken
Eritrea and embolden the minority government in Ethiopia to venture into
taking action against
Eritrea. We trust and believe the Eritrean people and government will
circumvent this situation and use its experience and fortitude to turn this
situation into the advantage of Eritrean people.
The Young PFDJ grass root youth organization across the globe is
disappointed the UNSC did not choose to rectify the wrongs it committed against the
Eritrean people during the last century and dismayed to observe that large
and powerful nations can abuse their muscle to harass and intimidate a new
nation for taking a balanced view that can enable to serve the people of
the Horn of Africa and achieve long term peace and stability.
Hence we wholeheartedly deplore the sanction passed by the UNSC against
Eritrea. We will support and work along with the Eritrean government in its
endeavor to achieve peace and stability in the region that will bring
eventual prosperity for its people.
