TheAmerica on Line featured the top ten losers and winners forthe year in 2009 in its headline, and thus President Obama and Nobel Prize Committeebeing respectively. I would add the United Nations as a loser in the list byvirtue of its passive role in passing a resolution against Eritrea. We realize such move is a combination of manyfactors as long as the chief actors who are inimical to Eritrea concerned. Ido believe that our independence is hard to swallow for our neighbors in particular, and the old and new colonial powers in general. As one scholar put it duringthe heyday of Russians in Ethiopia, “We prefer socialist Ethiopia to free Eritrea.” No matter towhich camp Ethiopia belonged by then, the financial and military aidscontinued to flow from the Western allies. That is why we were obliged tostruggle alone as Biblical Goliath with love and sacrifice for our belovedcountry. For this, it is unthinkable to side with these utilitarian elementswho are responsible for our present misfortune as refugees and downtroddenpeople.

Inmilitary science, the goal of war is not to kill, but to disarm the enemies. What is its relevance to military hardware embargo imposed on Eritrea? Is this not a subtle invasion of our nascent country? We have to predict the unpredictable as our saying goes “ ‘anafra QoQaH zeyfelT‘ayhadanyn” meaning it is a useless hunter who doesn't’t know how a partridge flies. It is the question of selaHta werar prevalent during thestruggle years. I realize some see such move as a psychological warfare devoidof physical harm. What may we have to be alert in controlling the situation byanalyzing deeply the inner motives of our adversaries. This is an age of mentalwar perisperated by few illuminati.
