The Eritrean Community Cultural and Development Center Inc. of Santa
Clara County, in partnership with a group from the Eritrean Community
of Alameda County (Oakland and its environs) invited Dr. Joyce
Blueford, to share with them, her first hand impression of Eritrea,
based on her working trip of May, 2001.

On Saturday, 28 July 2001, Dr. Joyce Blueford enlightened them by
displaying a sample of educational materials. To express her Eritrean
passion, Dr. Joyce Blueford, incorporated science education with
Eritrean rocks, shells, trees, and indigenous animals roaming on the
majestic Eritrean mountains. Her approach was effective because she
presented a Model that provides Eritrea with educational tools
adaptable by the MOE based on the countryUs own recourses and
languages.

Before Dr. Joyce Blueford started, invited guests and hosts were
seated in an ordinary Eritrean style of small meUadi to break bread,
"ZeLoka Tewekeff, Zeiblka AiytSekeff". It was a stylish symbol of
sharing, trust, and appreciation of friendship. While dining,
well-mannered audience and peculiar spectators were impressed with the
display of computerized exhibition of EritreaUs ethnic groups. Like a
movie screen, the new Eritrean map, depicting the nine nationalities,
became a wallpaper glued inside the Community Center.

Dr. Joyce Blueford provided the Eritrean envoys with various
hypothesis of the Model. She gave them details as to how she intends
to provide Eritrea with cost-effective educational materials adaptable
in their homeland. The audience was profoundly impressed, and asked a
variety of questions ranging from how can we help, join the program,
to when are you going back to Asmara. Following the formal
presentation, informal networking, and scouting continued. Traditional
coffee ceremony finished off the pleasant event.

There are as many ways of describing Silicon Valley, as there are high
technology firms in it. Silicon Valley is within fifteen (15) miles
from Community Center, encompassing three (3) Bay Area counties of
Alameda (Fremont and environs), San Mateo, and Santa Clara.

Most Eritrean Americans live and work in Silicon Valley, while some
live outside the Valley, and commute to work for companies located in
Silicon Valley, such as the ones who organized last SaturdayUs
celebratory event. The San Jose Community is practical, and as it
should be, the Eritrean charisma is prevalent in Silicon Valley. Many
thanks those who made it possible.
