Cultural event in commemoration of the 23rd Operation Fenkil colorfully
conducts
Massawa, 10 February 2013- As part of the 23rd commemoration of Operation
Fenkil that commenced on 8 February in the port city of Massawa cultural
event was conducted on 9 February at Sigalet Ketan.
In a speech he delivered during the event in which Ministers, regional
Administrators, army commanders, senior government officials as well as
participants participated, Mr. Siraj Haji-Yahya, Chairperson of Holidays
Coordinating Committee in the region, indicated that the objective of the
commemoration that is being conducted every year is to bequeath to the
young generation the significance of the day that was realized through
heavy sacrifices and great patriotism.
He further explained that the conducting of this year’s cultural event at
Sigalet-Ketan is in remembrance of the innocent people that were brutally
massacred by the Derge regime in 1990, and called on citizens to reiterate
pledge in honor of martyrs and reinforce participation in nation building.
Reports indicate that the cultural event included songs, dramas, and dances
performed by Northern Red Sea cultural troupe as well as other artists.
