Afabet, 17 March 2013 - The commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Nadew
Command's demise and the subsequent liberation of Afabet semi-urban center
has begun today in the presence of President Isaias Afwerki, Ministers,
Army commanders, regional Administrators, religious leaders, community
elders and thousands of participants from inside the country and abroad. In
a speech he delivered on the occasion, President Isaias said that such
commemoration provides groundwork for enlivening of reminiscences on the
part of freedom fighters in action during the historic operations, besides
the fact that it is a good opportunity for nurturing national values in
this connection. He further lauded those who demonstrated active
participation in organizing the event, namely, the National Holidays
Coordinating Committee, the inhabitants and Administration of Afabet
sub-zone, as well as artists who staged lively creative works in connection
with the historic operation. In the same vein, the Administrator of the
Northern Red Sea region, Ms. Tsigerda Woldegiorgis, pointed out that
occasions of this type are reminders of the need for popularizing various
remarkable events related to the armed struggle for independence and
reiterating the pledge of honoring the trust of martyrs. Moreover, she
called for stepped up artistic efforts in this regard. Also speaking on the
occasion, Mr. Siraj Haji, chairman of the Holidays Coordinating Committee
in the Northern Red Sea region, indicated that the demise of Nadew Command
is an episode when triumph of the EPLF's Strategic Withdrawal was
witnessed, and thus assuring the inevitable liberation of Eritrea. He also
commended the commitment of various institutions and nationals in
organizing the momentous event. Furthermore, the inhabitants and
Administration of Afabet sub-zone handed presents to President Isaias,
reports indicated. Different cultural shows, poems and other activities
were staged during the commemoration.

commemoration of Nadew Command's demise make tour of Kisad Ashorem area
Afabet, 18 March 2013 - The Participants of the commemoration marking the
25th anniversary of the demise of Nadew Command today made a tour of the
historical area of Kisad Ashorem where the calamity of Ethiopian forces of
occupation was witnessed during the operation following a strategic
encirclement. The commemoration participants said that such exposure
provides the groundwork for enlivening of reminiscences and nurturing
national values in this connection, besides the fact that it is a good
opportunity for citizens to reiterate their pledge of honoring the trust of
martyrs. Mr. Mohammed-Seid Saleh, one of the freedom fighters in action
during the historic operations, from his viewpoint of personal experience,
pointed out that the event is beyond what words can tell, and noted the
significance of organizing such tours in historical documentation and
popularization of national values. In the same vein, Meseret Bariagabir and
Aster Yosef, both from the US, voiced satisfaction and patriotic zeal for
taking part in the commemoration in general and the tour in particular.
They further called for the organization of such tours on regular basis.
Likewise, Abraham Rusom and Furtuna Yohanes, residents of Sudan, asserted
that the development accomplishments being registered nationwide attest to
the steadfastness of nationals, the sole secret behind the triumph of the
operation against Nadew Command. Reports indicate that the commemoration
would last until tomorrow
