The three-day, 9th YPFDJ Conference in Europe convened in Birmingham,
United Kingdom 28th March - 1st April 2013. Attending the Y-PFDJ Conference
in Europe are over 750 Eritrean youth representatives from Australia,
Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Norway, Sweden,
Switzerland, Sudan, Israel, Belgium, Uganda, Kenya, Middle-East, Canada and
the United States. Mr. Yemane Gebreab, Head of Political Affairs at the
People's Front for Justice and Democracy (PFDJ) will lead the three-day
Conference.

goal of the on-going educational Conferences, both inside Eritrea and in
the Diaspora are designed to harness and build a "Patriotic, Conscious,
Youth Movement", which will build on Eritrea's past achievements,
experiences and safeguard inherited values critical for Eritrea's desire
for a sustainable economic, political and social development. The
conference was attended by Eritrean high officials, Diplomats and Community
leaders are also present at the Conference. H.E. Tesfamicael Gerahtu,
Eritrea's Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Embassy officials,
PFDJ representatives and invited guests are participating in the youth

Samson Woldu, chair of the Conference Organizing Committee presented the
opening remarks by welcoming the participants and wishing the conference a
success. Mr. Samson said that Eritrean youth, cognizant of their
responsibilities to safeguard and defend the proud culture and values
inherited from the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF), are
participating in this Conference to continue to lay the foundations for
achieving Eritrea's development strategies.
H.E. Ambassador Tesfamicael Gerahtu in his welcoming speech also praised
the participants and congratulated them for organizing a highly effective
and succesful the 9th Y-PFDJ Conference. He said the to the conference
that he was pleased and proud that the United Kingdom is hosting the YPFDJ
conference this year's Conference. UK based Youth Cultural Group presented
a musical drama depicting the Eritrean history of struggle for independence
and its milestones. In addition to its entertainment content, the
presentation by the youth added to the educational theme of the Conference.
The YPFDJ chapters from across the world have presented their annual report
updates and status of their national YPFDJ chapters; the challenges and
opportunities they are facing in their respective localities. The main
topics of this year's conference is the Economic and Professional
Contribution to Eritrea and also the continuing organisational development
of Eritrean communities. The presentation and discussions will continue
until Sunday 31st of March 2013.
Sunday closing ceremonies will be attended by longtime members of the EPLF
who will share their experiences and offer guidance to the new generation.
