Woman stabbed in sick sex attack as men laughed
Published on 28/04/2013 07:00
A woman was repeatedly stabbed in the stomach and subjected to a violent sexual attack by two men who laughed at the “gratuitous” violence they inflicted upon her.
The 40-year-old victim escaped from her attackers wearing just her bra but was caught by one of them and had her head smashed against stone steps.
The woman was so terrified after the ordeal that when a police officer came to her rescue she said to h
im: “Please don’t hurt me.”
Sisay Beyene, 26, was jailed for 12 years and Daniel Grmay, 20, was sent to a young offenders’ institution for eight years over the attack.
Judge Tom Bayliss, QC, said he would be recommending both men to be deported to their home country of Eritrea after completing their prison sentences.
He told them: “Your continued presence in this country after your release would be to the significant detriment of this country.”
A court heard Beyene and Grmay targeted the woman after she left a nightclub in Leeds and took her back to Beyene’s flat at Lincoln Towers, Lincoln Green, in May last year.
Both men laughed as she was subjected to a sustained attack in which they tried to rape her.
She was punched in the head and stabbed four times in the stomach but escaped serious injury from the wounds.
Judge Bayliss added: “It is clear to me from the fact that you were both laughing, that you were getting pleasure from inflicting injury and humiliation on that woman.
Beyene was found guilty of attempted rape, unlawful wounding and assault and Grmay, of Wortley Towers, Wortley, was found guilty of attempted rape and unlawful wounding after trials at Leeds Crown Court.
