Police will hold a news conference this morning to release new details in the seemingly unprovoked murder of a mother of four.
Nighisti "Nicky" Semret, a recent immigrant from Eritrea, was stabbed to death in a Cabbagetown alley as she made her way home from an overnight shift as a supervisor-cleaner at the Delta Chelsea hotel on Gerrard Street in October.
At the time of the incident, police released surveillance camera footage showing a man walking behind Semret and reaching into his jacket pocket minutes before her death, but that man has never been identified.Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux is expected to speak at the news conference, which begins at 10:30 a.m.
Police are also expected to announce a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Semret’s killer during the news conference.
