Eritreans Residing in Minnesota and its Environs Observed June 20 Eritrean
Martyrs' Day
Eritreans and friends residing in Minnesota and its environs observed June
20 Eritrean Martyrs -
Day on June 20, 2013. Eritreans living in Minnesota and its environs
congregated from different
locations at the Eritrean Community Center and paid tribute to the
sacrifices paid for their
freedom and sovereignty.
The tribune began with a moment of silence in memory of the Eritrean heroes
who sacrificed
their lives and progressed with various shows that MN-YPFDJ prepared to
honor the day.
Patriotic songs, poems, lectures, and nationalistically articulated
messages glorified and shined
the event. Adding to the artistic commemoration were martyrs’ pictures,
flowers, slogans, and
Eritrean and American flags.
Time and again as a culture of patriotic keenness and legacy inherited from
Eritrean martyrs, and
the thirty years of Eritrean armed struggle for liberation as well as the
over 20 years of endeavor
for national development and sovereignty, Eritreans and their friends
living in Minnesota
reaffirmed in undisputable manner their determination to support the
martyrs' families. The
participants said Eritrea has a bright future and attributed its success to
the generations of
sacrifices ever paid and to the devotion of its great people. Recalling the
magnitude of the
sacrifice paid to liberate Eritrea, remembering the hundredth of thousands
of civilians died,
displaced, and immigrated during the armed struggle for independence and
national sovereignty
of an independent Eritrea, the tribute was commemorated with a great
nationalistic zeal and
patriotic determination to realize the vision of Eritrean martyrs for an
independent Eritrea. The
participants recalled the importance of supporting the martyrs' families,
expressed their sincere
gratitude for the efforts of the Government of Eritrea for its unreserved
support assisting the
families, and determined to fasten their dedication to build Eritrea and
protect it against all kinds
of hostilities and unwarranted aggressions.
Enhancing the efforts of the Minnesota Eritrean National Holidays
Organizing Committee, MNYPFDJ coordinated and led the commemoration
patriotically reassuring proudly and confidently
that they are capable of and indeed have inherited the vision, resilience,
and incomparable
sacrifice of Eritrean martyrs. MN-YPFDJ witnessed the determination of the
youth to hold and
pass Eritrean martyrs' legacy to future generations.
The National Holidays Organizing Committee awarded certificates to
children and adults who
year round saved and contributed money to the Eritrean Martyrs Fund. In
closing the tribute, a
candlelight vigil and patriotic songs performed in an honorable memory of
Eritrean martyrs and
a prayer was given for their soul to rest in peace.
