SHOREVIEW, Minn. (KMSP) -
Authorities have identified the man whose body was dumped in a Shoreview parking lot on Aug. 29, but they need the public's help to identify a person of interest.
Police say Hagos Melake, 26, of South St. Paul, was last seen leaving the Hunan Garden Restaurant in downtown St. Paul around 1:30 a.m. the morning of Aug. 29. At about 4:30 a.m. the same day, his ATM card was used at the US Bank on West Broadway in north Minneapolis.
The bank's surveillance video captured an unidentified woman using the card. Detectives are calling her a person of interest in Melake's death.
Melake's body was discovered around 6:30 a.m. the parking lot of a business in the 5700 block of Hamline Avenue. He had no identification on him. The Medical Examiner determined he died from a gun shot wound.
Melake was from the East African nation of Eritrea. The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office says there is no connection between Melake's murder and a series of recent Somali gang killings.
Detectives wish to talk to anyone who might have seen Melake at the Hunan Garden Restaurant on Aug. 29 or who may know the person of interest who used his ATM card. Those with information should call the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office at (651) 266-7320.
