The Minister for Integration, Cécile Kyenge, met this morning representatives of the Eritrean Community in Italy. Objective of the meeting: the repatriation of remains of victims of Lampedusa. The President of the Community, Derres Araia, asked on behalf of the Eritrean families to be able to recover the bodies of their loved ones. Currently the bodies are buried in cemeteries in Sicily, most of whom Agrigento, waiting for the Italian government study procedures designed to meet the demands of family, while respecting their traditions and international law. The Prefecture of Agrigento said that "the burial of the bodies will not prevent any refunds to family members who request it." The Eritrean Community also requested, to open a dialogue to develop channels of communication for cultural development between the two countries, also to
start processes that address the causes of the origin. In this regard, the minister focuses on young people "strengthening memory and shared history between the two countries to build the future on solid foundations of the past." At the end of the meeting, the representatives of Eritrean women have dealt with the issue of integration in schools.
