NISS Foils Human Trafficking Attempt, Frees Nine Hostages
Kassala – Kassala-based unit of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) blocked an attempt to smuggle foreign nationals by human traffickers active at the border between Sudan and Eritrea.
Special NISS operation code-named "the right track" managed to free nine foreigners including a child brought by human traffickers from the Eritrean town of Kern and Kassala, an informed security source has said.
NISS force carried out a daring operation by raiding the site where the hostages were kept, freeing them and arresting the traffickers including some who are wanted for crimes of human trafficking in the region, he said.
The hostages were shifted to safe location where they were provided with necessary health and food services and the culprits were sent for investigation, the source said.
The source added that the group members were involved in abduction and blackmailing because they reach an agreement with dealers to smuggle these nationals in return for money but later they hold them hostages and ask their relatives for ransom.
NISS said it would deal decisively with such activities, warning foreigners and citizens against dealing with such gangsters whatever pressures on them.
