During the opening session of the Ethiopian parliament and the House of
Federation today in Addis Abeba, Ethiopian President Dr. Mulatu Teshome, has
said that the "Ethiopian government will take an appropriate measure against
any aggression from the Eritrean government like it did last year."
Mulatu said that the government had defended attacks by rebel groups that
are armed by the Eritrean government such as Ginbot 7, ONLF and OLF. He said
similar measures would also be taken this year.
Observers say it is hypocritical that the government on the one hand states
that Ethiopian oppositions are not strong enough while at the same time
saying that it has defended attacks from oppositions and promises to take
more actions in the New Year.
Mulatu said the government had repeatedly called on the Eritrean government
for talks.
Meanwhile, the Federal Supreme Court 14th Criminal Bench had ordered three
Ethiopians that have been accused of working for the Eritrean regime to
defend.
Negasi Berhane Shumay, Tebeje Berhe and Blutse Gebretsadkan of the Gulemedi
Woreda, Eastern Zone of Tigary have been charged with passing information to
Eritrea about the Ethiopian force stationed in the Zalanbesa Front.
The individuals have been given training and money by the Eritrean
government, the Court heard.
