for Migrant Detention
October 25, 2014by Associazione Antigone
The Italian Parliament has approved a new law that says a migrant without
regular documents cannot be detained in a CIE (Center for Identification and
Expulsion) for more than 90 days. According to the previous law, the maximum
term was 18 months. Under the new guidelines, a migrant's CIE term is
reduced to a maximum of 30 additional days if he or she has already spent 90
days in detention.
