A 29-year-old man hanged himself on Tuesday in deportation prison in Aarau.
The Eritrean was for seven weeks in deportation preparatory detentionto be
returned to Italy. The prosecution at Lenzburg Aarau-opened an
investigation.
It had existed no evidence of an impending suicide, said the cantonal
Department Economics and Home Affairs (DVI) on Wednesday. On Tuesday and on
previous days the deceased several times contacted with the prison staff.
Against such persons he had according DVI expressed or implied no suicidal
ideation. It would have also existed no evidence of mental disorders or
diseases. The man had hanged himself in a lounge. The detention centers
located in the county jail in Aarau administration building.
Returned despite travel ban
The man was already returned once to Rome in March 2013 after he had agreed
to leave. Last August, he again entered the country despite travel ban in
Switzerland.
The Eritrean had owned an Italian residence permit and an Italian travel
document for refugees. Based on this, a return to Italy was planned as soon
as the Federal Office for Migration had adopted a new removal order, as the
DVI further explains.
