Sioux City (ABC 9 News) - Today members of the Eritrean Community in
Siouxland held a prayer service for the victims of a deadly crash that
killed five people last weekend. Loved ones came together to seek the
publics help to cover funeral costs and flight expenses to their native
country in east Africa.

According to police, a Chevy Trailblazer driven by Sishay Gidey, 53, of
Sioux City, was westbound on Highway 141 near Sloan when it veered onto the
gravel shoulder. Gidey then overcorrected and entered the eastbound lane
crashing into a GMC Sierra driven by Larry Malone, 70, of Des Moines.

Gidey's passengers - Kibrom Gebremicael, 46, Yohanes Tesfamariam, 34, and
Bahta Gebremedhen, 60, all of Sioux City - died in the crash.

Two of Malone's passengers - Donna Timm, 80, of Ute, Iowa, and Myrna
Malone, 70, of Des Moines -- were killed in the crash. Malone and a third
passenger, Jessica Malone, 37, of West Des Moines, were injured.

Malone has since been released from the hospital. His passenger, Jessica
Malone, is still being treated at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux city. Her
family chose not to reveal her condition to ABC 9 News.

As of Sunday morning, Health officials at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha
say Gidey is still in critical condition. Family members say he requires
several surgeries but they did not elaborate on what type of procedures he
may undergo.

Gidey has two children living in Sioux city along with his wife. The couple
is expecting another child early next year.

Family say they are in dire need of help to send the victims remains back
to Eritrea for a proper burial. They have set up an account at The Wells
Fargo bank in downtown Sioux City under the name "Eritrean Community." They
ask that anyone who can help to donate to the fund.
