fishermen in the Northern Red Sea region
Massawa, 21 December 2014 – The Ministry of Fisheries in the Northern Red
Sea region, in collaboration with Anberbeb Share Company, has organized
technical training course for more than 300 fishermen from 42 villages.
The training course that has been organized in Massawa for the fishermen
from Massawa, Foro, Gelalo, Ingel and Derbushet, included basic maintenance
of fishing boats and procedures that they should follow to minimize time
consumption and save money.
In a speech he delivered at the occasion, Mr. Tewelde Kelati, Minister of
Fisheries, indicated that the training is aimed at raising the capacity of
the fishermen to safely and effectively conduct their activities, and
called for establishing fishermen’s association for it is through strong
organization that they could reinforce activities and play due role in
increasing the supply of fish.
Mr. Tewolde Woldemichael, Director General of Economic Development in the
Ministry, on his part said that the theoretical and practical training is
aimed at raising the competence of the fishermen, and thereby conduct their
activities by minimizing risks and raise production.
Likewise, Mr. Michael Mezengi, from Anberbeb Share Company, explained that
the share company is contributing its share in the efforts to develop human
capacity in the country, and that they are playing due part to transfer the
experience they gained from the Japanese Toyota and Yamaha companies the
company is representing to customers.
The representative of the trainees noted the significance of the course in
their day-to-day activities, and voiced readiness to develop the career
through work experience.
