*YouTube: the new center for Eritrean political debate*
I have always enjoyed watching Eritrean movies/songs on youtube.com during
my downtime. However, recently I began to notice the comments under some
videos to be unrelated to the content of the video. As I looked through
more videos, I acknowledged the trend of the comments to be more political
than entertainment related. So, as I scrolled through more videos I began
to notice a pattern of hateful comments toward President Isaias Afewerki,
especially in videos that involve his image. Some comments compare him to
be the “African Hitler”, while some defend his presidency by shading light
on the country’s accomplishment. I have always held my opinion of President
Isaias Afewerki’s presidency whether he is the right man for the job or if
it is time for him to step down. However, before looking at the faults that
he possesses as a president, I have always managed to look at the
circumstances that played a role in those faults. As a result, my decision
has always been to acknowledge his accomplishment and defend his
presidency, as I have done so many times now on YouTube videos. One of
those people that I have constantly come across in defending President
Isaias has been a well-known Anti-isaias activist Alem Kidane, who you
could pretty much find a comment from under any video that relates or
mentions Isaias Afewerki. So based of those comments that I responded to, I
have decided to write short articles defending some popular claims made by
Anti Isaias commenters. Therefore, I will post one article each week
defending a single accusation, as it would be too much to post it all at
once.
