Farmers, who have been living in Ajila Dale District, Dano Woreda, Western
Shewa Zone of Oromia region, have said to ESAT that they are being evicted
from the lands and houses they lived in for nearly 20 years. The farmers
state that their properties are being confiscated and are now in dire
condition.
"The government did give us the permit to live in the area and we have been
developing the area while paying taxes." They said. According to the
farmers, they were told that the lands they had owned were needed for the
building of a Church. The order came from the Court and they were given no
land in return.
Although they have appealed to the local authorities, they were not able to
go an inch as the administrator of the Woreda, Legese Nigussie had appeared
as an accuser himself.
Some of the evicted people include Getachew Gede, Zewdu Gebremedhin, Bogale
Teka,Mrs. Gete Haile, Dagne Yilma, Priest Likae Awoke, Abera Kassa, Priest
Teka Tsegaw, Habtamu Kibret and Debre Deneke.
ESAT's attempt to speak to Legese Nigusie, the administrator of the Woreda,
has been unsuccessful.
