Report shows Tanzania lagging behind in energy development

*Dar es Salaam. *Tanzania has lagged behind in global energy performance
index as it is placed at the second from the bottom of 17 Sub Saharan
African nations listed by the World Economic Forum (WEF) under the project
on Global Energy Architecture Performance Index (EAPI).
The 2014 EAPI project report also indicates that Eritrea has beaten
Tanzania in terms of energy performance indicators listed by the WEF.
Under the 2014 report of WEF released on December 30 last year, the country
at the bottom on the list is Benin with 0.35 points and 122 rank, followed
by Tanzania with 0.36 points and 121 rank, Togo 0.37 points and 119 rank,
Ethiopia 0.39 and 113 rank and Kenya with 0.41 points and 109.
Other countries at the top in the list with their ranks are; Eritrea 0.41
(107), Mozambique 0.42 (106), Senegal 0.42 (99), Cote d'Ivoire 0.43 (97),
Botswana 0.44 (95), Nigeria 0.44 (93), Zambia 0.44 (92), Ghana 0.45 (83),
Namibia 0.46 (82), Cameroon 0.46 (80), South Africa 0.54, 54, Congo, and DR
0.55 (53).
"Although sub-Saharan Africa achieves one of the lowest average scores
compared to other analysed regions, the region has a number of
resource-rich countries such as Nigeria, the Republic of Congo and Angola,
along with extensive coal reserves in South Africa, reads part of EAPI
