This past Saturday March 22nd, the Eritrean Community of Greater New York
commemorated their annual Women's Day celebration. The event began with a
remembrance of our martyred heros General Gebrezgabhier Andemariam (Wuchu),
General Mebrahtu Tekleab (Vaynak), General Amanuel Haile (Hanjama), and
gidim tegadelay Desu Tesfasion. This was followed by a compelling speech
about the accomplishments and steadfastness of Eritrean women. Thereafter,
the talented Leul Fesshaye with pianist Mehari kept the crowd engaged and
dancing throughout the night. Their song selections reminded us not only
of our liberation struggle's fight for gender equality, it also kept us
reminiscent of the 30 year anniversary of the demise of Wikaw Ezi. The
event was a great success and reminder of our continuous patriotic unity.
