BARAWE, Somalia May 15, 2013 (Garowe Online)-The Chief of Somalia's Al Qaeda
linked Al Shabaab group Mukhtar Ali Zubayr, also widely known as Ahmed Abdi
Godane has released a new audio message addressing the presence of Kenyan
Defence Forces (KDF) on Somalia soil, Garowe Online reports.
Godane said in the statement broadcast on Al Shabaab-run radio station in
the coastal town of Barawe of southern Somalia that Al Shabaab jihadists are
waging war on Kenya in retaliation to its military incursion into Somalia.
"We inflicted heavy losses on Kenya in Somalia and their incursion into
Somalia resulted in misfortune," the beleaguered Godane claimed.
"We tell Kenya, you pushed ahead with historic blunder, your forces suffered
setback in the ongoing offensives in the Islamic states and now you are
facing economic meltdown," he added.
The audio message from Al Shabaab Boss Godane comes weeks after Al Qaeda
inspired militants fled a string of strategic towns in southern and central
Somalia. Al Shabaab wants to rally support for its deadly insurgency against
Federal Government of Somalia.
In October 2011, Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) in battle tanks crossed the
border into Somalia in support of Somali government's stabilization plans.
Though Al Shabaab claimed credit for a wave of attacks on soft and military
targets in Kenya, Deputy President William Ruto declared that Kenyans will
not withdraw from Somalia.
