November 2013 – The 14th World Diabetics Day was marked at national level
on 16 November in Asmara under the theme “Exercise and proper diet vital
for controlling Diabetics”.

Speaking on the occasion in which members of the National Diabetics
Association and invited guests took part Dr. Tesfai Solomon, Head of the
Ministry of Health Central region branch, pointed out that the Ministry of
Health is working hard to control the prevalence of communicable and
non-communicable diseases in general and that of diabetics in particular.

Likewise, Dr. Goitom Mrbrahtu, Chairman of the National Diabetics
Association, on his part indicated that Eritrea is one of the exemplary
member countries in Africa, and that effort is being made to supply free
drag for the victims.

During the occasion briefings had been provided aimed at nurturing the
awareness regarding the prevention and control mechanism in connection with
the disease.

Currently the National Diabetics Association has about six thousand members.
