Russia plans to develop ties with African countries - Putin


Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday received credentials from
ambassadors of several foreign countries, including diplomats of several
African states, at the Kremlin on Wednesday.

MOSCOW/TASS/. Russia plans to develop relations with African countries and
will give all assistance they need, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at
a ceremony of receiving credentials from ambassadors of several foreign
countries, including diplomats of several African states, at the Kremlin on
Wednesday.

In particular, Putin noted that Russia was interested in developing ties
with the Republic of Djibouti. "We are open for cooperation in international
affairs, establishing contacts in economic and other spheres for the sake of
strengthening peace and stability on the Horn of Africa," he said.

Putin noted that Russia also valued friendly ties with the Central African
Republic. "Jointly with the international community, we will continue
promoting effort taken by the republican interim leadership to attain
political and inter-confessional accord and to improve a hard humanitarian
situation," he added.

As for relations with Eritrea, the president noted that they were
broadening. "We have close approaches to topical issues on international and
regional agenda and a striving to establish trade and economic ties," he
said.

As for ties with the Republic of Ghana, Putin noted that they were also
developing in a traditionally constructive way. "We are interested to
continue coordinated work in the United Nations Organization and other
international structures, and we will continue assistance to the training of
specialists for different industries of Ghana's economy," he noted.

Welcoming an ambassador from Zambia, Putin recalled that 50th anniversary of
diplomatic relations between Russia and that country was marked recently.
"We are interested in further promotion of bilateral cooperation, including
traditional aid in training staff for that country and will continue talks
on positions over issues of regional and international agenda," the
president added.

The Russian leader also said that Russia intended to develop relations with
Tanzania, "step up cooperation on the international scene and to bolster
trade and economic cooperation." "We welcome Tanzania's active role in
settling African problems," he added.
