Near Sloan, IA (ABC9 News) - Officials have released the names of the
victims involved in the fatal car accident on Highway 141 Saturday evening.

46-year-old Kibrom Gebremicael, 34-year-old Yohanes Tesfamariam, and
60-year-old Bahta Gebremedhen, of Sioux City died as a result of the crash.

80-year-old Donna Timm of Ute, Iowa, and 70-year-old Myrna Malone of Des
Moines, Iowa also lost their lives.

Officials say Shishay Gidey of Sioux City was driving westbound on Iowa 141
when he went onto the shoulder of the road, over corrected and lost control.
As a result, the vehicle slid into the eastbound lane and was struck
broadside by the car driven by 70-year-old Larry Malone of Des Moines.

Officials on scene told ABC9 news that 3 were taken to the hospital
including the two drivers and passenger Jessica Malone, 37, of West Des
Moines. They were all taken to Mercy Medical Center, and Gidey was later
transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Creighton. No
word yet on the conditions of the 3 patients.

What started off as two cars going in the opposite direction, lead to the
death of 5 people. As a white Chevy Trail Blazer with 4 people inside of it
was heading westbound on Highway 141, it went off to the side of the road.
The driver then tried to over correct it. "When he over corrected, he lost
control, striking a eastbound Ford pick up truck head-on, on Highway 141,"
said David Drew, Woodbury County Sheriff.

Each car had 4 people in it. As of now 5 of them are dead, and 3 are in
critical condition. Sheriff Drew says the situation was so bad that Woodbury
County officials needed help from others. "Three were transported to Mercy,
one by Mercy Air and the other by ground ambulance. Emergency personnel have
been here from Salix, Sergeant Bluff, Sloan, Hornick and Smithland," said
Sheriff Drew. As of now, the crash is still undergoing investigation.
