Ethiopia, Qatar to enhance bilateral

President Dr Mulatu Teshome said yesterday that Ethiopia and Qatar are ready to work together in bilateral, regional and international issues as he received Qatari Foreign Minister Bin Abdurahman.

Also yesterday, Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn had talks with the Qatari foreign minister.

The Ethiopian ambassador to Qatar Misganu Arga, who attend both sessions said the president recalled the recent reciprocal visits by the two countries high level delegations which was resulted in the signing of agreements.

The president further said a road map to implement the signed agreements has been prepared and would be effective in three months time. Pertinent institutions from both countries are expected to meet and identify areas to design projects which would be approved by senior officials of both countries.

The Qatari foreign minister said for his part his delegation discussed bilateral,regional and international issues.

He said the cooperation between the two countries is progressing from time to time and it would gain a momentum.

Ambassador Misganu said for his part the nation is striving for structural transformation enhancing manufacturing sector to create jobs and substitute import as well as diversifying export commodities.

The premier said Ethiopia is keen to work together with Qatar in infrastructural development, peace and security as well as regional and international affairs.

The Qatari foreign minister said for his part the economic cooperation between the two countries would be strengthened towards mutual benefit.

According to him, Qatar wants to play due role in ensuring peace and stability in South Sudan and Somalia joining hands with Ethiopia.

Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome yesterday met HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani during the latter’s visit to Ethiopia. 
HE the Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to the Ethiopian president and his wishes of progress and prosperity to the Ethiopian people. 
President Teshome reciprocated HH the Emir’s greetings, wishing him health and happiness and more progress, development and prosperity for Qatar. 
The meeting reviewed bilateral relations between Qatar and Ethiopia and means of developing them in addition to issues of mutual interest. 
HE the Foreign Minister also met Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and his Ethiopian counterpart Workneh Gebeyehu yesterday. 
During the two meetings, bilateral relations between Qatar and Ethiopia and ways of enhancing and boosting them, especially in the fields of economy and investment were discussed. 
They also exchanged views on a number of issues of common concern. 
HE the Foreign Minister said relations between Qatar and Ethiopia are historic, expressing hope for developing them at all levels. 
Speaking during a joint press conference with his Ethiopian counterpart, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman said the two countries drew a roadmap to interpret the joint programmes on the ground and push forward their ties, particularly in the fields of investment, economy, tourism and security, noting that businessmen in both countries will exchange visits to learn about investment opportunities. 
The Foreign Minister said Qatar counts heavily on Ethiopia’s international role in preserving security and peace through its membership in the Security Council from 2017 to 2019, especially regarding regional issues, looking forward to its positive contributions to put an end to the suffering of the Arab people in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen. 
For his part, the Ethiopian foreign minister described ties with Qatar as historic and solid, expressing his country’s aspiration for promoting the political, economic and security partnership with Qatar. 
HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani called on Qatari businessmen to invest in Ethiopia.
