Obituary

Jerome Goytom
May 26, 1941 – December 25, 2016

Jerome Goytom passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2016,
surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

He leaves behind his sisters, Abrehet and Esther, and a vast number of
friends and relatives worldwide, who we miss very much already.

Jerome was a dedicated organizer in the Eritrean independence movement from
the early 70’s in Europe, the United States of America and Canada.

He was a veteran and respected leader of the Eritrean Community in Ottawa.
His selflessness and his larger than life personality have been invaluable
pillars in the community.

His passions were music, dancing and reading.

Jerome was always ready to lend a helping hand to those near and far.
Without any fanfare, quietly and with humility, he helped countless people.
His generosity and compassion for family, friends and strangers flowed with
an open and loving heart. The endless 'gifts that he kept on giving'
throughout his life (at all times) will forever be remembered, honoured and
cherished. His integrity, constant inquisitiveness and his innovative
approaches to resolving life’s challenges made people seek his advice and
trust his judgement. His love and kindness knew no bounds, which people
felt through his dedication and support.

Jerome had the ability to interact with people of all ages, backgrounds,
nationalities. He was a man of the world; interested, knowledgeable and
concerned.
