Public transport operators in several towns in Amhara and Oromia regional states continue their strike demanding the new punishing regulations to be revoked and reduced gas prices.
Operators in Dessie, Kombolcha, Shewa Robit, Ataye, Kobo, kemissie and Mersa went on strike paralyzing movement of people and freight in the Amhara region.
In Nekempte, Oromia region, regime’s forces went door to door and arrested drivers who took part in the strike. There has also been reports clashes between the public and security forces but causalities from the skirmishes were not available.
The strike by operators of public transport began on Monday when taxi drivers in the capital Addis Ababa went on a two day strike. Strikes have since been spreading to other towns in Ethiopia.
