More Chinese Awards for Eritrean Scientist
Habte Michael Habtetzion, “Habtet” to family and friends, is an
Eritrean scientist completing his Ph.D. in Fish Nutrition at the world
renowned Nanjing Agricultural University in China and has been
recognized for his excellence in research with a number of awards.
At the end of 2015 he was awarded the “Distinguished Foreign Student
Scholarship” sponsored by the Chinese Government Scholarship Council.
Last month he received an award entitled “Excellent International
Student” from the Nanjing Agricultural University.
Habtet was also awarded the “Highest Impact Factor Publication in the
Year 2015” from the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, Chinese
Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS).
He has published 19 original research papers to date in prominent
scientific journals including “The British Journal of Nutrition”,
“Fish and Shellfish Immunology” and
“Aquaculture”(

Habtet’s Ph.D. thesis has been accepted for publication as an academic
book by the prestigious German Lambet Academic Publishing Company and
will be available soon.
Habtet has a vision for his motherland, Eritrea, and that is to help
lead the development of a modern environmentally sustainable
aquaculture industry that will produce tens of thousands of tons of
fish annually for both domestic consumption and for export. Habtet
will be finishing his studies in the middle of this summer and will be
returning home. Hopefully Eritrea’s leadership will recognize Habtet’s
abilities and nationalism and provide him with the support he needs to
help make Eritrea one of the worlds leaders in aquaculture
development.
