/Cincinnati, Ohio, 8 March, 2016//*. */For the first time, on March 5,
2016, with better organization, wide-support, with several volunteers,
generous donors, and the involvement of the Young People’s Front for
Democracy and Justice YPFDJ, the Cincinnati Branch of The National Union
of Eritrean Women [NUEW], celebrated March 8, at one of the suburbs of
Cincinnati! The Cincinnati Branch of the [YPFDJ] played a wonderful role
and raised some money to help NUEW.

During the event, Azmarina and Nigisty welcomed the participants and
paid tribute to the Eritrean women who died during the war of
independence. Almaz read the official statement issued by NUEW. Tekle
Asgedom and Abraham Tesfay read poems in Tigrigna relating to the
liberation struggle conducted by the Eritrean women and the role they
played in the national struggle for independence and equality. Demaris
Michael read an English poem she wrote that depicted the role of the
Eritrean women in Eritrean society. Almaz read the Tigrigna translation.

Yonas Ogbazgy, treasurer of YPFDJ, Susan Mehari, chairperson; Demaris
Michael, secretary; helped in the registration, decoration, and setting
up the hall and tables. This was done with the collaboration of other
women. They also helped in selling raffle tickets. Arsiema and Saron
Haile did a good job at the registration desk.

More than expected, many women, men, and young people came to celebrate
March 8. The music was great, the food and drinks were plenty. Mehari
Ghebreab and Nigisty Tewelde’s family, with the help from other women
and members of NUEW, catered the delicious food of the evening. The
drinks were donated by two Eritrean business owners, Haile Ghebrengus
and Dawit Medhanie.

The hall was festooned by Eritrean flags. Everybody enjoyed the event,
music, and dancing. Michael Tewelde, DJ of the evening, played good and
selected Eritrean songs that tell the story of the contributions of
Eritrean women to the unity of Eritrean society.

The Cincinnati Branch of NUEW is led by Almaz Mesfin, chairperson;
Azmarina Seltene, secretary; Zaid Tesfai, treasurer; and Nigisty Redae
assistant to the treasurer. Susan Mehari was the photographer of the
evening. She took a picture of everybody who came to the event. The nice
pictures she took are posted on Facebook. Members of The NUEW and others
contributed money to cover the cost for the rental of the hall!

.Almost all of the participants who came to the event expressed their
happiness and satisfaction about the success of the celebration. Many
have expressed that the March 8, 2017, event will be better!
