Eritrea rejects reports of Iranian, Israeli operations

Washington, 22 April (WashingtonTV)-Eritrea on Wednesday dismissed media
reports that Israel and Iran were conducting rival intelligence
operations in the northeastern African country.
Citing security sources, the London-based Sunday Times newspaper
reported on 19 April that Israel has set up two bases in Eritrea, one
for its submarines and another to gather intelligence. The report also
said that Iran has established a naval base there.
"Israel does not have, and it never had, any base in Eritrea," read a
statement by Eritrea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement accused Israeli intelligence sources of spreading "false
rumors" in an attempt to "sow discord between Eritrea and some Arab
states."
While acknowledging "very warm diplomatic ties" with Iran, Eritrea also
denied that Iran has any bases in the port of Assab, or anywhere else in
the country.
