Afewerki Says; Qatar is Able to Resolve Darfur Crisis
Doha, May 19 (QNA) - Eritrean President Isaias Afewerki has asserted
that Qatar, as a neutral State, possesses potentials and complete
readiness to make it a good contributor to solving the Darfur crisis.
In an interview to Qatari Arabic daily /Al Sharq/, published here on
Tuesday, the Eritrean President said that Qatari investment projects in
Eritrea are huge and cover several sectors such as tourism,
infrastructure, energy and other projects scheduled to be executed till
2020, pointing out that it depends on the strategic partnership
agreement in development, trade and investment.
The Eritrean President noted that assisting the Somali people in the
building of a national unity government is the way to resolve the piracy
phenomenon, saying that / / if there is a stable government in Somalia
with strong institutions, such a phenomenon will never appear//.
He referred as well to the inability of the international and American
forces to eliminate the piracy phenomenon, eluding to the existence of
some pretexts on part of the foreign countries to intervene in the
region under pretext of terrorism to play the role of policeman in the
region.
Concluding, President Afewerki called for a regional mechanism to
address piracy and avoid such international interventions. (QNA)
