NORFOLK, Va. - Fifty-five sailors will deploy from Hampton Roads Tuesday
as part of Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa.
Most of the sailors will be working out of Djibouti during their one
year deployment, but some service members will be stationed in partner
nations and remote operating bases.
Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa's mission is preventing
conflict, promoting regional cooperation and protecting coalition
interests.
More than 1,500 people from each branch of the U.S. military, civilian
employees, coalition forces and partner nations make up the Combined
Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTFHOA) organization. The area of
responsibility for CJTFHOA includes the countries of Djibouti, Ethiopia,
Eritrea, Kenya, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
The sailors were originally scheduled to deploy Monday morning, but
their departure was delayed 24 hours.
