Somalia: A Repeat of Failed Political Drama

As the Somali people's opposition to foreign invaders mounted and
gained momentum, the initial zeal of the invading forces swiftly
declined and the TPLF regime was finally forced to make a humiliating
withdrawal. History has more than once proven that no force however
powerful has been able to invade and secure control over other peoples
let alone a servant regime like the TPLF which invaded Somalia to
please its masters. Thus, although nobody expected it to be this soon,
it was clear from the beginning that the TPLF regime will indeed be
defeated and forced to withdraw from Somalia; for invaders are always
bound to be defeated.
Yet, the basic problem in Somalia is still not whether which force has
come in and which has gone out, the heart of the problem lies in the
question of the country's reconstitution and territorial integrity. As
the Government of Eritrea has repeatedly made clear, a government
representing all the people can be formed in Somalia only if the
Somali people's right to make their own choice in working towards
national reconciliation is respected.
Other than this, a 'government' formed in some foreign land with the
collaboration of the AU and the UN that has nothing in common with the
wishes and desires of the Somali people and does not in any way
represent the sovereignty or territorial integrity of the Somali
people is not only illegal but will also merely serve in prolonging
the Somali people's plight just as other previous similar failed
political attempts. Because no force has the right to ride over the
Somali people's voices and pronounce itself as the representative of
the people and country.
