The Bay area YPFDJ sponsored a successful workshop on organizational skills, leadership, team work and understanding the vision and the goals of YPFDJ. Mr. Dawit Haile, the Youth and Organizational Affairs Coordinator from Washington DC Embassy of Eritrea, conducted the workshop on Saturday Feb. 7th from 9 AM to 6 PM. The workshop which had over 40 youth participates from the Bay Area was well received by all.
Before the workshop began, breakfast prepared by the Santa Rosa Eritrean mothers was served. At 9:30 AM the workshop began by Mr. Dawit Haile asking the following questions to the attendees.
1. What would you like to learn from the workshop?
2. What difficulties/challenges do you face in your community?
3. What would you like to learn about YPFDJ?
The workshop covered what it takes to organize the youth, how to lead, manage the organization, how to work as a team and how to work with other international organizations.
Mr. Dawit discussed extensively how the youth should work in harmony amongst their fellow Eritreans without divisiveness along religion, sex and any other trivial difference. He urged them to work for national harmony as the generations before them did during and after the war of independence. He also discussed and engaged the youth on Political democracy, economic and social development, social justice cultural revival and regional and international cooperation based on partnership.
After the lunch break which was also prepared by the Santa Rosa Eritrea Mothers, Mr. Dawit discussed the importance of having dedicated, conscious nationalist youth to carry the torch to build a strong, prosperous and peaceful Eritrea.
Furthermore, the youth got to discuss what they can do to this end. They talked about how important it is to hold political education, instructive seminars on personal development, leadership advancement and organizing trips to Eritrea to learn about their country. At the end of the conference the youth volunteered to start YPFDJ chapter in Santa Rosa and communicated briefly what steps they need to take to have an effective organization that caters the community as well as their country and people in their homeland. They committed to work toward this end and organizing the youth and providing services that would enable them to raise the consciousness of the youth and taking initiatives to start projects that benefits Eritrea.
The Bay Area YPFDJ thanked at the end to the mothers who took the day off to cook and provide breakfast, lunch, tea and traditional coffee, to DJ Alex who provided his services and equipment free of charge and to everyone who participated to make the workshop success.
