Commemorative events of 19th anniversary of Operation Fenkil colorfully
conclude

Massawa, 16 February 2009 - The commemorative events of the 19th anniversary
of Operation Fenkil culminating in the liberation of Massawa that took place
from February 13 to 15 under the theme: "Operation Fenkil: Voice of Dawn"
concluded in a colorful manner.
The chairman of the holidays coordinating committee in the Northern Red Sea
region, Mr. Hamid Haj, stated that the celebrations were colorfully
conducted thanks to the effective organization and coordination, as well as
active participation of the people and various institutions. He also
expressed appreciation to all those who made due contribution for the
success of the event.
Mr. Hamid further indicated that the celebrations were characterized with
high discipline and warm hospitality to guests, besides being an occasion
that amply demonstrated the existing firm unity among the Eritrean people.
A number of programs, including works of sculpture prepared by the Defense
Ministry’s agitation and information center that portray the history and
heroism of the Eritrean people and freedom fighters, cultural shows, sports
competitions, carnival shows in which various institutions participated,
arts exhibition depicting the progress of the Eritrean Naval Force, peaceful
march as well as seminars highlighting the heroic feats of fighters at the
historic Salina and Fenkil operations featured in the course of the event in
which tens of thousands of people took part.
Meanwhile, the residents of Massawa port city commemorated the 19th
anniversary of Operation Fenkil through preparing communal tents.
In the communal tents of 3 administrative areas, different food and drinking
stuffs, as well as different cultural and artistic programs were staged in a
bid to commemorate the event in a patriotic zeal.
Ms. Meriam Ferej, a resident of 02 administrative area, said that the
resident of the city annually commemorate the historic event through
preparing communal tents and festive programs.
Acting head of the 03 administrative area, Mr. Zeresenai Gaim, on his part
commended the public for actively participating in organizing the events and
extending warm hospitality to guests.
