Eritrean cyclists win gold and bronze medals in Egyptian race

Asmara, 14 February 2009 - Eritrea cyclists won gold and bronze medals in the cycling race that was held in Egypt today.
In the 165 km-long race around Sharm-Asheik, Eritrean cyclists Frekalsi Debessai, who is also bronze medalist of all African Games, stood first, while cyclist Merhawi Gebrehiwet finished the race 3rd.
Also in a 175 km-long race that took place yesterday, Frekalsi Debessai and Michael Tikue stood 3rd and 5th, respectively.
It is to be noted that cyclist Frekalsi Debessai stood first in the 8 km-long chronometer race on February 10 in which he finished the race by 11 minutes and 25 seconds.
Competitors from 8 African countries and other 7 teams from Europe and Asia are taking part in the Egyptian cycling race covering about 700 kilometers and would continue up to February 16.
