Kenya's Tergat wins Lake Biwa marathon

OTSU, Japan: Former world record holder Paul Tergat of Kenya won the
Lake Biwa Marathon on Sunday.
Tergat pulled ahead of Spain's Jose Rios with one kilometer remaining
and crossed the finish line with a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes, 22
seconds.
Rios was second with a time of 2:10:36 while Yared Amseron of Eritrea
was third in 2:10:49.
Tergat held the marathon world record 2:04:55 from 2003 to 2007.
Tergat was invited to make his Japan debut at the 2007 Fukuoka Marathon
but had to withdraw for military duty with the Kenyan Armed Forces.
