Eritrea has said that the African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia is
part of the problem and not the solution to insecurity in that country.
The force - known as AMISOM - was established in 2007 to help support the
transitional government.
The Eritrean ambassador to London - Tesfamicael Gerahtu - spoke about AMISOM
during a press conference designed to present Eritrea's view on peace in the
Horn of Africa.
This comes in the wake of a United Nations resolution imposing sanctions on
Eritrea for its alleged financial and military support of the Somali
insurgents.
Focus on Africa's Damian Zane was at the press conference and asked the
ambassador whether he thought the AU had no positive role to play in
Somalia.
