"His one regret is not returning to Ethiopia in 1985 during the war with
Eritrea. Snyder met with both heads of the nations and tried to work out a
peace agreement, but as time went on tens of thousands of people died and
they went back to war.

He continues, "I'm just one house member, but I wish I had a that time done
another trip back there just to do what I could to do to encourage the
parties to try and resolve it without going to war again."

Vic Snyder to spend more time with family

January 24, 2010

U.S. Representative Vic Snyder has been in office for 13-years and this week
he said 7- terms is long enough.

Congressman Snyder says the conversation has been in the air since the birth
of their first son, but with triplets and his wife developing a heart
complication during the pregnancy, family has to come first. And he's
confident his replacement, whoever it may be, will serve Arkansas well.

Being dad to a three-year old and one year old triplets, Vic Snyder says he
needs to spend more time at home and catch all the milestones. He says, "I
think it's easier with older children, but young children who cry when they
see you put on a tie and they think you're going to get on an airplane."

Snyder talks down speculations of a losing race for re-election and says he
would have liked to be a part of it. "If they think that if we didn't have
4-kids that we'd be backing out of this race? No, not at all it's all about
the kids."

He's also amazed by the depth of the democratic bench in just one-week. "To
have this many capable people stepping forward, I've told members of
congress, any one of these folks on the democratic side would be a superb
nominee. It's a great honor to have these seats."

But he still has 11-months in the House of Representatives and plans to be
active in the challenges that lie ahead. "So you put National Security at
number one and than the economic situation which health care is part of it.
The jobs, the economy, there is still potential for the recession, we could
drop back into a down turn."

His one regret is not returning to Ethiopia in 1985 during the war with

As for the future, Snyder says retirement isn't in his vocabulary. "I can't
retire, I have young children. He laughs, "My wife has reassured me, yes
indeed you do need to work so yeah. I will."

Congressman Snyder says he has a year to figure out what his next career
path will be.

There are currently three republican candidates running for his seat and
about 12 democrats thinking about filing.

*Snyder's biography includes an extensive medical background before his
career in politics.*

He was born September 27th, 1947, in Medford, Oregon; he is now
62-years-old.

He graduated from Williamette University in 1975 then went to medical school
at the University of Oregon.

After receiving his doctorate in 1979, Snyder moved from Oregon to the
natural state - setting up a family practice.

In 1988, he received his law degree from UALR.

His first dip into politics came in 1991, serving in the Arkansas senate for
the next five years.

He then set his sights on Washington, where he has served in the U.S. House
of Representatives since 1997.

He has four boys. They are three-year-old Charles Pennington "Penn" and
one-year-old triplets Aubrey, Sullivan and Wyatt.
