February 2010 - In an eye-witness report, the Kuwait newspaper, Al-Nebae,
wrote extensively about Eritrea saying that the country is heading to a
bright future.
In a 3-page coverage of the interview the paper conducted with President
Isaias Afwerki, it highlighted the President's assertion that is not at all
inclined to sell an inch of its territory to Iran or Israel. Al-Nebae
particularly disclosed President Isaias' dismissal of baseless allegations
claiming that there exist Israeli and Iranian military bases in Eritrea, and
that such smear campaign is part and parcel of attempts being made to
tarnish Eritrea's image.
In the extensive interview focusing on domestic, regional and international
issues, the President explained that the turmoil and disaster in Somalia,
Sudan, Kenya and others are an outcome of the gimmicks employed in the name
of so-called democracy. In this respect, he pointed out that the term
'democracy' is currently being applied as a tool for inciting conflict among
peoples and the like.
Replying to a question whether Eritrea accepts 'mediation towards resolving
the problem with Ethiopia', President Isaias declared: "We don't have any
problem with Ethiopia. As the border issue has reached legal conclusion,
there is no need for any mediator and that there is no option other than
accepting the EEBC ruling adopted in our favor." In this connection, he
underlined that Eritrea's concern has to do with the United States itself,
and that the TPLF regime is but only an appendage.
President Isaias went on to say that in view of the fact that Washington
has not yet learnt from its gross past mistakes, thus putting itself in a
situation of quagmire. He further emphasized that such an adventurous
course of action has its own limits.
