NEW YORK (Reuters) - American Meb Keflezighi will defend his title at this
year's New York City Marathon, organisers announced on Wednesday.
In 2009 the Eritrea-born 34-year-old became the first American man in 27
years to win the race.
Keflezighi and Deena Kastor the United States' top female long distance
runner of the past decade, were the first professional runners announced for
the Nov. 7 race.
"With Meb's win last year and Deena's gutsy efforts over the years, they
have become part of the magic and history of our marathon," New York Road
Runners CEO Mary Wittenberg said in a statement.
Both are expected to be leading contenders for major marathons this month as
well, Keflezighi at Boston on and 37-year-old Kastor at London.
