Asmara, 15 April 2010 - Members of the Eritrean National Assembly and the
German Parliament held meeting focusing on the objective situation in the
country and the region, as well as the experience of both countries.
In the meeting at the Denden Hall here in the capital, the Eritrean National
Assembly members outlined the programs being implemented to ensure the
all-round development of the nation following the armed struggle for
independence, as well as the challenges being encountered in the process.
Noting that all the programs are being implemented through active popular
participation, they explained that the people are participating in all
decisions and programs either directly or through their representatives.
The members of the German Parliament on their part stated that the visit
enabled them to personally witness the prevailing reality in Eritrea and
expressed desire to foster cooperation based on mutual interest through
maintaining continuous contacts with the Eritrean National Assembly members.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Ms. Amna Nurhusein, held talks in her
office with members of the German Parliament and professional members of the
Hamer Forum Doctors Association.
She pointed out that the Eritrean government is exerting unremitting
endeavors towards expanding social services, and thereby ensure social
justice. The Minister further indicated that substantial investment is being
made particularly in the health sector, and as a result equitable health
service has been introduced in remote areas of the country.
Ms. Amna explained that Eritrea is keen to engage in joint tasks on the
basis of mutual respect, and expressed appreciation for the non-governmental
Hamer Forum Association for its major contribution in the development of the
health sector in Eritrea that began 15 years ago.
The members of the German Parliament and Hamer Forum said that they have
been able to confirm on the ground the validity of the Eritrean government's
policy in the health sector. They further stated that the cooperation,
especially in children heart surgery, as well as nurturing health
professionals and technicians would continue in an enhanced manner.
Assessing the tasks so far accomplished, the two sides conducted discussion
on the implementation of future programs.
