Asmara, 19 January 2011 - A 22-member German-based medical team, "Heart
Help", together with Eritrean doctors carried out successful heart surgery
on 12 patients at the Orotta Hospital.
The head of the German medical team, Dr. Lobbes Wolfgang, told ERINA that
the team provides heart treatment service to Eritrean patients by visiting
the country twice a year. He further stated that the task being performed
jointly with the Eritrean doctors is quite fruitful.
The coordinator of the medical team who is an expert in anesthesia, Dr.
Zeremariam Tewoldemedhin, stated on his part that the surgery would
constitute a turning point in the lives of the patients as they have been
suffering from heart disease for a long time and are family bread-winners.
Another member of the team, Prof. Rainer Leyh, explained that the surgery
being undertaken in Eritrea is imperative for exchanging experience with
Eritrean doctors.
Likewise, Dr. Yemane Sium, internist who participated in the surgery,
indicated that the undertaking of the heart surgery in collaboration with
partners is aimed at relieving patients suffering from heart disease, in
addition to sharing experience.
