*EAAA To Give $500 Scholarship: Registration Deadline February 12, 2011*
Attention all high school runners in the United States and Canada. This is
an especially important announcement for you. The Eritrean American
Athletics Association is providing a $500 scholarship at the end of this
year to eligible students.
Requirements are:
1. Register now with EAAA: Registration deadline Feb 12, 2011. To register,
email Alex Amaniel, secretary, at warsai553@gmail. com<warsai553@gmail.%20com>
2. Run competitively and show improvement during the seasons.
3. At least 3.0 Cumulative GPA for 2010-2011 school year (transcript
required).
4. Present two essays due March 5, 2-4 pages *total*, double-spaced:
a) "This scholarship is given from the funds of Eritreans to support
Eritreans. How will you use your education to the benefit of Eritreans at
home and abroad?"
b) "Life is a marathon, not a sprint. It is a long haul filled with
challenges to overcome. Name one challenge you experienced academically,
athletically, or in other areas, what you learned from it, and how the
challenge made you a stronger person."
EAAA is not looking for the most accomplished runner, or the highest
achieving student, but for the applicant who we feel will benefit the most
from this scholarship. Essay and registration are due by May 1. After
receiving entries, EAAA will monitor applicants' athletic and academic
performances throughout the year.
It is recalled that EAAA awarded a scholarship of $1000 in 2010 to an EAAA
runner who excelled athletically and scholastically. The award was given to
the parents of the runner during the Eritrean Festival in August
in Washington, DC.
