Shewit Weldensae Continues to excel
Shewit Weldensae has been excelling in running and academics in the past year!
This past XC season has been very successful for Shewit and her team. The team
came in 1st at the conference and regional meet. Her team also won the State
Championships for the second year in a row; putting the Green Hope girls XC team
the best in the history of NC. After States, they competed in Nike Cross Country
regional, their region being the Southeast Region (Delaware down to Florida).
They came in 2nd place which qualified them for Nike Cross Country Nationals in
Portland, Oregon. This was the first time in the history of North Carolina that
a girl’s team has qualified for Nationals. Nike sponsored Shewit and six other
girls on her team to fly to Oregon. Their hotel and food paid along with Nike
running gear. In Oregon they met thirteen professional Nike athletes. The girls
team finished 10th in the nation. Shewit registered personal record time for
the season at 19:2. She improved over a minute from last year. Shewit is
currently doing winter track. In March, she will be going to New York for Track
Nationals. Shewit has been working hard with both school work and her running
this past year. Shewit has managed to maintain a 3.8 GPA in her academics too.
In the pictures is Shewit with her team in one and leaving the pack in the other
cross country meet.
We congratulate Shewit for continued excellence and we expect her better results
in 2011!
