On Saturday, February 26th YPFDJ Dallas hosted its first annual “Hade Hizbi,
Hade Libi” (One People, One Heart) Benefit Dinner in Richardson, TX. The
evening started off with poetry written and read by our dynamic MC Moses
Habtezghi, highlighting the importance of taking action to help our fellow
Eritrean brothers and sisters in need around the world and in our local
communities. Following the reading, dinner and drinks were served which
consisted of a wonderfully delicious meal sponsored by local charitable
restaurants and businesses- Dallul, Desta, Queen of Sheba, Hana’s Mart,
Lucky Liquor and Red Coleman.
The night continued with performances displaying the passions of the younger
generation of Eritrean youth raised in the DFW area. Each performer amazed
the guests with talents such as inspiring art work and poetry readings by
Yore Naizghi and a touching musical selection by artist Marie Ferow, both of
which spoke to the spirit of the night which celebrated love, support and
charity. In addition, Hidri Dallas made their first official debut
appearance as an organization. The Hidri children put on a spectacular
performance in which they depicted the nine tribes of Eritrea and shared
knowledge of their Eritrean identity with the guests, tying into the theme
of the night. YPFDJ also presented the audience with videos on several
projects completed during the 2009-2010 year, including footage of the YPFDJ
Dallas Orphanage Project allowing guests the chance to be introduced to
one of the many tenets of YPFDJ Dallas, which is service, and helped
them understand what the chapter aimed to achieve in the new year.
The motivating videos and the inspiring performances encouraged guests
to ensure a successful night of giving, by bringing the organization close
to their donation goal for the evening. The night ensued with raffles of
restaurant gift certificates to places like Desta or Queen of Sheba and
auctions of luxury items that came from Eritrea, and of course dancing and
mingling throughout.
YPFDJ Dallas would like to thank the support of the donors, the
United Eritrean-American Families of Dallas, and the Dallas
Eritrean community as a whole, for making the event an astounding success
and a night filled with compassion for those less fortunate. The support
of all those who donated online, at the dinner, or by mail make certain that
the programs we have in place like the Big Brother Big Sister Mentor
Program, the Orphanage Project and HIDRI Dallas will grow to make a
difference in more children's lives. The continued support of the community
is a true testament to the faith placed in the YPFDJ chapter and an
affirmation that we will meet and exceed many of the goals projected for the
upcoming year.
