Minister outlines accomplishments in health sector
Asmara, 5 March 2011 – The Minister of Health, Ms. Amna Nurhusein, said that a
number of diseases that used to claim human life have been controlled and
prevented thanks to the tasks accomplished over the years.
In an interview she conducted in connection with the forth coming symposium of
the Health Ministry, the Minister outlined the substantial investment made in
modernizing health infrastructure and expanding better medical service across
the nation.
Ms. Amna further explained that the impressive achievements Eritrea registered
in controlling communicable and non-communicable diseases, including malaria,
polio and HIV/AIDS have won broad acclaim on the part of the World Health
Organization.
Noting that the early days of independence there existed few number of health
professionals along with poor health infrastructure facilitates limited in some
areas, she indicated that various colleges and health training centers have been
opened at huge government expenditure that are playing major role in expanding
health care service.
Likewise, the Minister pointed out that advanced educational opportunities,
including that of specialization are being offered inside the country and abroad
to nationals. She stated that the opening of standardized referral hospitals
and health centers even in remote areas of the country are making significant
contribution in rendering quality service.
Ms. Amna also stated that a 5-year strategic plan is under implementation
focusing on the introduction of advanced technological equipment, nurturing more
competent manpower, expanding further health stations and boosting medicine
supply, among others.
