EAAA and ERA-UK (Eritreans in London) encouraged Eritrean Cyclists, Athletes and
Sport Commision
Eritrean American Athletics Association in conjunction with Eritrean Relief
Association -UK ( Eritreans in London) handed monetary and other awards for
Eritrean cyclists, athletes and Sport Commission.
The Special Gold Medals, which were made in honor of the Eritrean cyclists who
became African Champions, were handed on Sunday the 6th of March in Edamariam,
Asmara. All the cyclists and coach Samson were present to get their award except
Daniel Teklehaimanot, in which case Yonas Zekarias received the medal on
his behalf. A special gift was also presented to Eritrean Sport Commission for
their continued efforts in advancing Eritrean cycling and athletics. Ms. Seble
Ephrem represented EAAA and ERA-UK on the handing over ceremony.
The two organizations also handed over twenty four thousand Nakfa to the two
federations. The $12,000.00 Nakfa, given to Eritrean Cycling Federation, will be
awarded to cyclists who will excel in the mountain climbing of the upcoming Tour
De Eritrea. The other $12,000.00 Nakfa, given to Eritrean National Athletics
Federation, will be awarded to runners who will excel in an upcoming running
event of the federation.
The two organizations, commending previous investments of the general public and
government in Eritrean athletics and cycling, would like to call for more
aggressive investment in recognizing the finest Eritrean sportsmen and women.
